The Oyo State Government on Tuesday demolished a building in Ibadan that was allegedly used to store arms and ammunition by suspected criminal groups.

The demolition was carried out as part of ongoing efforts by the state to strengthen security and tackle rising criminal activities across Oyo State.

The exercise was ordered by Governor Seyi Makinde after security agencies reportedly linked the property to the hiding of weapons used in criminal operations.

Speaking during the operation, the Commissioner for Public Works, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, said the decision followed intelligence reports and investigations by security operatives.

He explained that the building was discovered to be a suspected storage point for arms and ammunition, adding that the move was backed by a detailed report from the Commissioner of Police.

Mogbonjubola also said the action followed recent security challenges in the state, including kidnapping incidents involving schoolchildren and other high-profile cases.

He added that investigations had led to the identification of properties allegedly used as hideouts or operational bases by criminals.

According to him, the demolition serves as a warning to anyone using properties to support criminal activities in the state.

He maintained that the government will not tolerate crime in any form and will continue working with security agencies to dismantle criminal networks.

He, however, declined to give full details of the weapons reportedly recovered, citing security reasons.
