The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has rejected claims that President Bola Tinubu enjoys an extravagant lifestyle despite the country’s economic difficulties.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Adedeji said the President remains primarily focused on his responsibilities and does not live a lavish life.
He explained that Tinubu sometimes walks from his residence to his office and only relies on vehicles when heading to the airport.
“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport,” Adedeji said.
The NRS chairman also claimed that Tinubu eats only once a day and has not travelled outside Nigeria in the last three months.
Addressing concerns about the expensive vehicles used by the presidential convoy, Adedeji argued that Tinubu was financially capable of purchasing such vehicles even before he became President.
“How much is an Escalade that the President of Nigeria cannot afford?” he asked.
Adedeji further dismissed suggestions that Tinubu spends his time indulging in leisure, pointing to what he described as the President’s demanding daily schedule.
“How many parties have you seen him at in the last three years? Tell me where you have seen him, whether on holiday or anywhere?” he said.
