President Bola Tinubu on Thursday evening held a closed-door meeting with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of efforts to ensure a smooth and credible party primaries ahead of upcoming elections.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and had in attendance key members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, including its chairman and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, as well as the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Other governors present at the meeting included Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Umar Bago of Niger, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, and Peter Mbah of Enugu, among others, while some states were represented by their deputy governors.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Governor AbdulRazaq said discussions focused on the upcoming primaries following the release of the APC timetable, with emphasis on ensuring fairness and internal unity.
He explained that the governors and party leadership reviewed strategies to guarantee a transparent process without internal crisis.
“We met with Mr President. The timetable for the primaries has been released. We’ve discussed the process moving forward, so that there’ll be free and fair elections, no rancour, and at the end of the process, the party should be one, stronger than ever, heading towards the election,” he said.
