The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that 110 Nigerians are among 355 West Africans set to be deported from the United States as part of a wider immigration enforcement exercise.
The agency released the list alongside photographs of the affected individuals under its West Africa Operations Watch initiative, which targets people found to be in violation of US immigration laws.
According to DHS, the deportations cut across multiple West African countries, with Nigeria recording the highest number after Liberia, which has 94 cases. Ghana and Senegal follow with 30 and 19 individuals respectively.
Other countries on the list include Cameroon (15), The Gambia (14), Ivory Coast (14), Mauritania (12), Cape Verde (11), Burkina Faso (9), Niger (8), Guinea (6), Togo (6), Mali (5), as well as one each from Benin and Guinea-Bissau.
Authorities said those affected were flagged for various immigration breaches, including visa overstays, illegal entry, and failure to meet residency conditions.
DHS described the exercise as a coordinated operation spanning several US states as part of efforts to enforce immigration compliance.
