Godswill Akpabio has said the current wave of insecurity in Nigeria is linked to political activities ahead of upcoming elections, insisting that the situation will ease once the elections are concluded.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during the unveiling of the Nigerian Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, where he also praised the administration of Bola Tinubu, describing it as effective despite criticisms.

Akpabio claimed that the rise in insecurity is being driven by political actors who are unsettled ahead of the elections and are allegedly behind efforts to destabilise the country.

“Insecurity is increasing because election is coming, because people don’t know what to do again. Immediately after election, two weeks after election, the insecurity will stop. The insecurity is being sponsored by people.”

He further urged Nigerians to be patient with the government, maintaining that progress is being made under the current administration.

The Senate President also criticised the opposition, saying it is divided and disorganised. He made a veiled reference to Peter Obi, noting that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party has moved between political platforms despite his electoral performance.

“Opposition is in disarray, someone got six million votes and abandoned the party, abandoned the six million votes and went shopping for another platform and they are blaming the ruling party.”

Akpabio called on Nigerians to remain patient, insisting that the government is on the right track and should be given time to deliver results.
