Nigerian billionaire investor and businessman Femi Otedola has recounted an amusing experience involving his daughter that ultimately inspired him to return to active business after a period of retirement.
Otedola explained that there was a time when he had stepped away from work because the returns on his investments were more than enough to sustain his lifestyle. According to him, the interest he earned from funds deposited in Nigerian banks made it unnecessary for him to pursue new business ventures.
“I never planned to work again because my savings was earning 35% from Nigerian banks,” he said.
However, his outlook changed after an incident involving one of his daughters at school. He recalled that she was asked about her father’s occupation and gave an answer that made him rethink how he was spending his time.
“But when my daughter was asked in school what I do, she said: ‘My daddy sleeps every morning.’ That woke me up to start a business,” he added.
The businessman said the innocent remark served as a wake-up call, prompting him to become more actively engaged in business once again.
His story has since drawn reactions online, with many people finding humor in the child’s response while others pointed to it as an example of how motivation can come from unexpected places.
