The Oyo State Police Command has distanced Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, from reports surrounding the alleged release of kidnapped victims in Igboho community, Oorelope Local Government Area.

According to the police, there is no official confirmation that the victims have been rescued, adding that there is also no evidence to support claims that Sunday Igboho participated in any operation that led to their freedom.

The police position follows widespread reports and videos shared on social media suggesting that the abductees were released shortly after Igboho issued a two-hour ultimatum to suspected kidnappers in the area.

The victims, said to be a pregnant woman, her children and a sibling, were reportedly kidnapped during a late-night attack in the community.

Sources claimed the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N300 million before later reducing it to N150 million.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the situation, residents of Igboho were seen celebrating after reports emerged that the family had regained freedom. Several videos circulating online showed jubilant scenes in different parts of the town.

Before the reports of the release surfaced, Sunday Igboho had held a meeting with Fulani leaders in the community, where he accused some individuals of being responsible for kidnapping incidents and worsening insecurity in the area.
