Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has strongly condemned the recent violent incidents recorded in parts of the state, describing them as a threat to peace and democratic stability.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Adeleke alleged that armed political thugs carried out coordinated attacks in several communities, including Ile-Ife, Ede, Osogbo, and surrounding areas, leaving some residents injured and causing widespread tension.

The governor said the violence was unacceptable and warned that political differences must never be allowed to degenerate into bloodshed or intimidation of citizens.

“No political objective is worth the loss of lives, pain, and suffering inflicted on innocent citizens. Democracy must not be reduced to a battlefield where political disagreements are settled through violence,” he stated.

Adeleke appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to urgently intervene and prevent further escalation of insecurity in the state.

He also urged leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, including former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to rein in their supporters and promote peace.

According to him, continued violent clashes and political provocations could undermine the relative stability Osun has enjoyed in recent years, stressing the need for all stakeholders to act responsibly.
