Members of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo’s family have publicly expressed concerns over what they describe as unanswered questions surrounding his death and funeral arrangements.
In a statement released on Instagram by his cousin, David Ekubo, the family alleged that crucial information about the actor’s final days and passing has not been fully disclosed to them.
Alexx, who reportedly died on May 11 after battling stage 4 kidney cancer, was buried last week in Arochukwu, Abia State. Funeral activities included a service of songs in Lagos and a wake attended by family members, friends and colleagues in his hometown.
Despite the burial, David said relatives remain troubled by what they consider inconsistencies and a lack of communication regarding the circumstances of the actor’s death.
“With grave pain, heaviness and sorrow, the family of Ikenna Alex Ekubo advises the public that the events leading up to his passing have been unclear,” the statement reads.
He further claimed that the family was not informed immediately when Alexx died and alleged that the relative who collected his body from the mortuary was not permitted to view the remains.
“The Ekubo family were not informed that he passed on the 11th of May, the Ekubo who officially received Alex’s body from the mortuary was not allowed to view the body.”
David also stated that the family did not authorise the use of white clothing during the funeral ceremonies.
“Amongst other important facts the Ekubo family did not approve the wearing of white for what seemed to be a celebration of life for a 40year old Alex Ekubo whose life was suddenly cut short.”
According to the statement, relatives are still seeking explanations about the actor’s death.
“The Ekubo family are yet to receive answers on how and why Alex passed away suddenly.
“Alex Ekubo’s only biological sibling @omaalex3 and biological mother who are alive and well are yet to be formally updated about the circumstances surrounding the untimely and suspicious passing of Alex.”
The family’s statement has since generated widespread reactions online, with many calling for clarity regarding the issues raised.
