Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, setting the Emir’s palace on fire and abducting several residents, including women and children.
Reports indicate that the armed attackers stormed the border community late at night, shooting sporadically as they moved into the area before targeting the palace and nearby houses.
Sources said the gunmen overran local vigilantes and operated for several hours without any form of resistance, forcing residents to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers first descended on the palace, where they allegedly set parts of the structure ablaze before whisking away several victims.
“Bandits invaded Yashikira in the night. They set the palace on fire and kidnapped women and children, including the Emir’s wives,” a resident told SaharaReporters.
Another resident said the assault plunged the community into panic, with families left searching for missing loved ones after the attackers eventually left the area.
