Actress Bolaji Ogunmola has responded to claims that her new film Ajosepo: The Gathering is being unfairly prioritised in cinemas at the expense of other movies currently showing.
In a video shared on Instagram on Sunday, she denied suggestions that cinema operators were favouring her project, stressing that screening decisions are based strictly on business performance and audience interest rather than personal influence.
She explained that she had initially remained silent on the matter but felt the need to address public perception surrounding the controversy.
“So many things has been going on and really honestly, I have been quiet because there’s no need. Let’s just focus on the goal. But I also understand that it’s an issue of public perception,”
According to her, cinema showtimes vary depending on how well a film is performing, the level of online engagement, and audience reactions across different platforms.
“The way the showtimes are done is based off of how we perceive the film will do well, how people are talking about the film in the media space and how people are reviewing and reacting to the film. It has nothing to do with favoritism,”
Ogunmola also clarified that Ajosepo: The Gathering is not a sequel to the original Ajosepo movie, but a separate production that can be fully understood without watching the first installment.
“This is a standalone film that can work by itself. You don’t have to see the part 1,”
She expressed disappointment over claims that she was attempting to undermine other filmmakers, insisting that she has never encouraged audiences to skip or boycott any film.
“I have not actually tried to sabotage anybody’s film,”
