Burna Boy has reclaimed the record for the highest monthly listeners ever recorded by an African artist on Spotify after reaching a new peak of 46.84 million listeners.
The achievement sees the Grammy-winning musician overtake South African singer Tyla, whose previous record stood at 46.58 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform.
The surge in Burna Boy’s audience has been driven largely by the worldwide success of “Dai Dai,” his collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira. The song, chosen as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has enjoyed massive global exposure following its performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony.
The track has also recorded impressive chart success across Europe, climbing to No. 1 in Spain, No. 2 in France, No. 3 in Italy, No. 4 in the United Kingdom, No. 5 in Switzerland and No. 8 in Germany.
Despite the recent success of “Dai Dai,” Burna Boy’s 2022 hit “Last Last” remains one of his biggest songs on Spotify, with nearly 600 million streams.
The latest milestone comes as the singer prepares to release a new studio album and embark on his “Unity Tour” later this year.
Burna Boy now leads all African artists on Spotify’s monthly listeners chart, ahead of Tems, Ayra Starr and Rema, while Bruno Mars continues to hold the platform’s all-time global record with 133.6 million monthly listeners.
