The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday arraigned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations linked to the alleged interception of telephone conversations involving National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

El-Rufai is facing a five-count amended charge, which was revised from an earlier three-count charge at the beginning of the court session.

During proceedings, the prosecution informed the court of the amendment, leading Justice Joyce Abdulmalik to strike out the earlier charge sheet before the new charges were read.

The former governor pleaded not guilty to all five counts.

The allegations are connected to remarks El-Rufai made in February during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he claimed that his phone conversations were allegedly intercepted, allowing him to hear discussions involving instructions for his arrest.

The matter has been adjourned for further hearing.
