The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State for the 2027 election, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has rejected allegations connecting him to the kidnapping of Mrs Olaide Adegoke, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

Reacting to reports circulating online, the senator described the claims as “false, malicious, baseless, irresponsible, defamatory, and politically motivated,” insisting that he had no involvement in the incident.

The position was made known in a statement issued by his media office and posted on his official X account on Sunday.

Mrs Adegoke was abducted alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, on June 3, 2026, while taking them to school in Ibadan. The gunmen reportedly intercepted their vehicle in the Elewura area and whisked them away before security operatives secured their release on Saturday.

According to Alli’s media office, attempts to link the senator to the crime were based solely on allegations reportedly made by a suspect under investigation and had not been verified by any security agency.

The statement stressed that the lawmaker, who recently emerged as the APC governorship candidate after defeating Adelabu in the party’s primaries, had no connection whatsoever to the abduction.

“It is absurd and illogical for anyone to attempt to link Senator Alli to criminal allegations based on unverified claims allegedly made by a suspect under investigation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Alli has no connection whatsoever with the said criminal incident, the individuals mentioned, or any activity related to kidnapping or violence.”

The media office further claimed that efforts to associate campaign stickers and materials with the incident were part of a calculated campaign by political opponents to discredit the senator.

“We note with concern that even the report itself admitted that no security agency has established any link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime.

“It is therefore disturbing that faceless propagandists would deliberately weaponise unconfirmed claims to mislead the public and heat up the polity.”

Alli’s camp urged the public to disregard the allegations, maintaining that they were aimed at damaging his reputation and creating unnecessary political tension in the state.
