Veteran actor Bob Manuel has addressed the controversy surrounding his recent remarks about Nollywood, insisting that he never claimed to be older than the Nigerian film industry.

The actor explained that his comments were misunderstood after they circulated online, saying his original statement was about beginning his acting career before Pete Edochie became part of what is now known as Nollywood—not that he predates the industry itself.

According to Bob Manuel, some blogs distorted his remarks, creating the false impression that he was comparing his age to Nollywood.

Speaking in a recent interview, he said:

“I cannot say I’m older than Nollywood. I think some bloggers put words in my mouth because in a podcast, I said I was in Nollywood before Pete Edochie. In other words, Nollywood wasn’t there when Pete Edochie, Sam Loco and others started acting. Nollywood came with the release of Living in Bondage.”
