Nollywood actor Olakunle Fawole, popularly known as Abounce, has opened up about the breakdown of his marriage to actress Yvonne Jegede, revealing that although he no longer has romantic feelings for her, he will always stand by her because they share a son.
Speaking during an interview with Chude, the son of late veteran actress Bukky Ajayi said he has never believed in holding on to resentment after a relationship ends.
Reflecting on the failed marriage, he said:
“I had a girlfriend once, but it didn’t work.”
When asked what led to the separation, Abounce responded:
“I think we’re just, on different planes. I’d rather just be the one to say, ‘Oh, everything was my fault,’ so to speak, I don’t like the enmity of things.”
The actor explained that he prefers to remain cordial with former partners rather than avoid them if they cross paths.
“I don’t want to see somebody that I used to be with down the street and I turn my face away,” he said, adding that he would gladly greet his ex-wife if they met.
Asked whether he still loves Yvonne Jegede, he gave a straightforward answer:
“No.”
Despite that, Abounce stressed that he would always protect her because she is the mother of his child.
“Yes, she’s the mother of my son,” he said before adding that if she were ever in danger, he would do everything possible to defend her.
“I’m somewhere, and she’s in trouble, somebody is doing something, I’ll try my best to k!ll the person,” he said.
When asked if his reaction would simply be because he wanted to protect her, he replied:
“Yes.”
He concluded by saying his commitment to her safety comes down to one reason:
“she’s the mother of my child.”
