Joseph Aloba, the father of late singer Mohbad, has said his son will not be reburied until the ongoing DNA dispute involving his grandson, Liam, is resolved.
Speaking to journalists after proceedings at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu on Tuesday, Aloba insisted that the DNA test is crucial, saying it goes beyond determining Liam’s paternity.
According to him, the test could also help uncover the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, which he believes was not natural.
“This DNA test is a must. The issue goes beyond paternity. We are trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. His death was not natural, so the DNA test has become the most important issue delaying his burial,” he said.
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, died in September 2023. His body was later exhumed to aid investigations into his death, while the paternity dispute involving his son has remained unresolved.
The family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, told the court they want the DNA analysis to be conducted in a court-approved laboratory to ensure transparency.
The case was adjourned until August 11, 2026, for further hearing on the application filed by the Aloba family’s legal team.
