Residents of Delta State were left shocked on Wednesday after a privately operated aircraft reportedly landed on a road in the Ogwashi-Uku area near Asaba.
The incident gained attention after a video surfaced online showing the aircraft parked on a concrete roadway before moving along the road and eventually taking off.
Confirming the development, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority said it has grounded the aircraft and suspended the operator’s permit while investigations continue.
According to the agency, the aircraft was initially attempting to land at Asaba Airport but carried out a missed approach at about 7:43 a.m. local time. Information available to regulators indicated that it later touched down on a roadway close to Asaba.
The NCAA stated that all four crew members on board safely disembarked from the aircraft and were transported to Asaba by road. No injuries were recorded.
However, preliminary findings revealed that the aircraft later departed from the location and flew back to Lagos without securing the necessary regulatory clearance.
In a statement issued by NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu, the authority said air traffic controllers were only informed after the aircraft had already taken off.
The regulator described the action as a breach of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations and said a full investigation into the incident is ongoing.
