Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala has said relocating abroad does not automatically guarantee a better standard of living, despite the economic challenges many Nigerians are currently facing.
Speaking amid growing concerns over the rising cost of living in Nigeria, Bwala argued that many Nigerians who relocated to the United Kingdom are also struggling with high taxes and living expenses.
According to him, despite earning salaries in pounds, many are left with little after paying taxes and utility bills.
He said, “People in Nigeria are doing better than those who japa’d. Many of them are working as slaves in UK. They earn about £2,800 monthly and pay £2,450 back in tax and utility. If you earn ₦60k in Nigeria, you’re better than them.”
