Upon securing re-election as Real Madrid president, albeit by a narrower margin than expected, Florentino Pérez reportedly promised supporters that the club would present a major €150 million bid for a “galáctico” signing on Tuesday.
While early speculation linked the Spanish giants with Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise as well as Paris Saint-Germain midfielders Vitinha and João Neves, the high-profile target turned out to be Atlético de Madrid forward Julián Álvarez.
However, the move was swiftly rebuffed by Atlético, despite the formal nature of the approach.
In an official statement, Real Madrid said:
“Real Madrid C.F. announced today that, following a board meeting, the club submitted a €150 million offer to Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights to player Julián Álvarez. Club Atlético de Madrid, after reviewing and evaluating the proposal, expressed gratitude for the offer, noting the positive relationship between the two clubs, but ultimately rejected it, citing the player’s release clause.”
