Activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has urged the federal government to extend its demolition policy beyond suspected kidnappers’ hideouts to include properties allegedly linked to corruption by politicians and public office holders.

In a post shared on his X handle on Tuesday, Sowore said the same strict measures applied to criminal hideouts should also be enforced against those accused of looting public funds.

He argued that corruption in public office causes wider societal damage, describing it as a form of “kidnapping” that deprives citizens of access to healthcare, education, jobs, and infrastructure.

“There is no reason why the demolition of houses should be limited only to kidnappers.

“If the government truly believes that property acquired through or used for criminal activity should be destroyed immediately, then the same principle must apply to politicians.

“Public treasury looting is a form of kidnapping too, it kidnaps healthcare, education, jobs, infrastructure, and the future of millions of Nigerians,” he said.

Sowore further stated that public officials and influential individuals who allegedly acquire wealth through corruption should also face similar consequences, including the demolition of mansions built with stolen funds.

“Public officials, and other powerful individuals who steal public funds to build mansions and acquire vast assets should have their mansion demolished,” he added.
