Suspected bandits launched a deadly assault on Kemanji village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State in the early hours of Monday, leaving many residents feared dead.

According to security sources, the attackers struck at about 3 am, with the violence also claiming the lives of some soldiers.

Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by local vigilantes, were said to have engaged the assailants in a heavy gun battle that lasted until around 5 am.

Although the full casualty figure and extent of damage are yet to be confirmed, sources disclosed that a number of soldiers were among those killed during the clash.

The incident follows recent attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in the same area, where bandits reportedly killed several people, razed homes, and abducted over 100 residents who remain in captivity.
