Chef Amaka, wife of popular health advocate Aproko Doctor, has opened up about her battle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), revealing how the condition affected her physically and emotionally after her marriage.

Sharing her experience, she said the symptoms began just three months after she got married when her menstrual cycle stopped, leading her to seek medical help.

“When we got married 3 months after I stopped seeing my period then I went to the hospital, I was diagnosed with PCOS.”

She explained that the condition caused significant weight gain and changes to her body, making her the target of hurtful remarks from people whenever she appeared in public with her husband.

“The syndrome starting giving me funny body structure, I started adding weight, when I stand with my husband, I was looking way older.”

According to Chef Amaka, some people even mocked her by saying she looked like the man in the relationship because of her appearance.

“People started throwing me that I’m the man of the house, that I bear my husband.”

She added that the most painful comments were those suggesting her husband was unable to father a child because of their fertility struggles.

“What made me cry was when they said my husband is not man enough to father a child.”
