Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has formally denied allegations that he owes UK-based show promoter Otis Ayodele Kubeyinje, popularly known as Baddest DJ Timmy, £4,106 over a proposed United Kingdom tour, insisting the claims are false and defamatory.
In a statement issued through his lawyer, Tope Salami, Dakolo maintained that a signed Performance Agreement clearly outlined the responsibilities of both parties and placed the cost of venues, sound, lighting, technical production, visas, flights, accommodation and transportation on Revolve Entertainment, the tour promoter.
“Our Client unequivocally denies these allegations,” the statement read.
The legal team explained that the agreement also stated those expenses were non-recoupable, while only advertising and promotional costs approved by Dakolo and his management could be recovered.
According to the statement, the UK tour never took place because Revolve Entertainment failed to meet key production standards, particularly in relation to sound, lighting and technical production.
“Accordingly, Our Client bears no contractual or legal responsibility for expenses which the Promoter voluntarily incurred, particularly where such expenses were expressly allocated to the Promoter under the Agreement or were incurred without the approvals required by the Agreement,” the statement added.
Dakolo also accused Baddest DJ Timmy and Revolve Entertainment of defamation, harassment and invasion of privacy, alleging they falsely described him as a “thief”, “bloody arrogant” and “evil”, while also publishing private information and attempting to intimidate him through social media.
His lawyers demanded that the promoter immediately stop making defamatory statements, remove all offending publications, issue a public retraction and apology within seven days, and refrain from any further acts of harassment or blackmail.
The statement warned that if the demands are ignored, Dakolo will pursue legal action in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom to protect his reputation, privacy and security.
