Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has alleged that the presidential primary election of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was manipulated, claiming he possesses evidence to support his position.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Lawal said he witnessed the process firsthand in his capacity as the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North-East zone.
According to him, the exercise was flawed and failed to reflect a transparent electoral process, insisting that the outcome appeared predetermined.
“Don’t forget I was the National Vice Chairman (North-East). I was in the field during the exercise, so I have evidence,” he said.
“Whatever Atiku’s people are saying is not true. I knew the primary was rigged at the point it was being done and the results being declared.”
Although he maintained that he has proof of irregularities, Lawal did not disclose specific details of the evidence during the interview.
The former SGF also dismissed allegations that he received money from former ADC presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in exchange for support.
Rejecting the claim outright, he argued that his backing of Hayatu-Deen was based solely on his assessment of the aspirant’s capabilities.
“If I want money to do politics, I’d phone Bola Tinubu here, and I am sure before I get home, they would give me the money,” he said.
Lawal insisted that financial considerations played no role in his political decisions, maintaining that competence was the reason he supported Hayatu-Deen.
