Mustafa Sule-Lamido has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Jigawa State following the party’s primary election held in Dutse on Sunday.

The chairman of the electoral committee, Isa Ahmed, announced Sule-Lamido as the sole candidate, stating that the exercise was conducted in line with the PDP constitution and electoral guidelines.

Sule-Lamido, who contested the governorship seat under the PDP in 2023, commended party leaders for organising a peaceful primary process across the state. He also congratulated other PDP candidates and appealed for unity among members ahead of the next general election.

Speaking after his emergence, he said his administration would prioritise economic development, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, institutional reforms and social welfare if elected governor.

“This moment is not new to me. In 2023, you entrusted me with this same irresponsibility and together we ran a campaign rooted in unity, hope, reform and promise of a better Jigawa.

“Though we did not secure victory then, we earned the confidence of hundreds of thousands of our people and laid a strong foundation. We are back in the race today because the problems and challenges bedeviling our dear state are still with us,” he said.

Sule-Lamido lamented the level of hardship in the state, blaming poor governance and what he described as insensitive leadership for the challenges facing residents.

“We are not here to lament. We are here to fix the problems,” he stated.

He also criticised the declining quality of education in Jigawa and said many citizens had been disappointed by the performance of the government.

According to him, his goal is to build a state where leaders are accountable, public resources are properly managed and every citizen has access to opportunities.

“We also intend to build a state where opportunities are accessible to every citizen,” he added.

The PDP candidate further urged party supporters to work together and mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

“To the people of Jigawa, I hear you, I see you and I feel your pains; give me the opportunity to serve you,” Sule-Lamido said.
