American rapper Lil Wayne has confirmed that he is no longer engaged, revealing that he and his partner have ended their relationship.
The 43-year-old made the announcement in an Instagram video shared on Sunday, July 5, while addressing fans about his recent concert cancellation in Maine.
“I would like to clear something up: No, I’m not engaged,” he said near the end of the video.
Although neither Lil Wayne nor his former partner had publicly confirmed their engagement, reports earlier this year claimed he was engaged to 23-year-old Madi Cannon.
Explaining the breakup, the rapper spoke warmly about his ex-partner, saying their decision to separate was influenced by the pressures of today’s social media culture.
“I had a beautiful thing going with an amazing person, but, obviously, due to the validity of the temperature of today’s crazy world and culture, I considered, I don’t want to be such a burden on such an amazing person,” he said.
“So, we decided to part. Sucks.”
Lil Wayne has had several high-profile relationships over the years. He was previously engaged to singer Nivea and actress Lauren London, both of whom he shares children with. He was also married to Toya Johnson, his high school sweetheart and the mother of his first child, before they divorced in 2006.
In the same video, Lil Wayne also apologized to fans for missing his scheduled concert in Bangor, Maine, confirming that the show has been rescheduled for July 28, though he did not disclose the reason for his absence.
