The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), bringing an end to the waiting period for thousands of candidates across Nigeria and beyond.

The announcement followed the approval of the results at the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

In a statement issued by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the examination body disclosed that 186,291 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects.

According to the council, the candidates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination was conducted from April 20 to April 30, 2026, and was successfully completed nationwide.

Sani noted that the meeting which approved the release of the results was chaired by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.

He added that the committee expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the procedures that led to the processing and release of the results.

The meeting was attended by representatives of secondary school principals from across the country as well as members of the council’s management team.
