Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, amid an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving about ₦1.3 trillion.
Although the EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, was unavailable for comment, a source within the commission told Channels Television that the former governor is being investigated over the alleged diversion of 13 per cent derivation funds accruing to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023.
Okowa had previously been arrested on November 4, 2024, when he was questioned by EFCC operatives at its Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate over the same allegations.
It was gathered that he appeared at the Lagos office on Monday reportedly to seek the release of his international passport, which he said was needed for medical treatment abroad.
As of the time of filing this report, it was still unclear whether the anti-graft agency granted his request.
