Minister of Power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has assured Nigerians that the persistent national grid collapse and unstable electricity supply will be addressed within a short period, saying noticeable improvements are expected within three months.

Tegbe gave the assurance on Wednesday during his screening before the Senate in Abuja, where he was extensively questioned on the ongoing challenges in the power sector before his eventual confirmation as Minister of Power.

During his presentation, he outlined an emergency reform agenda focused on stabilising the national grid, improving transmission efficiency, and reducing the frequent system failures that have continued to disrupt electricity supply across the country.

He told lawmakers that his approach would be driven by strict timelines and measurable outcomes, stressing that the first 100 days in office would be crucial in restoring stability and setting the direction for broader reforms in the sector. He also proposed a public performance dashboard to allow Nigerians monitor progress.

“If there are no results in three months, there will be none in six,”

Lawmakers expressed concerns over whether such an ambitious timeline was realistic, considering long-standing issues such as weak transmission infrastructure, vandalism of power assets, and gas supply shortages.

Despite the reservations, Tegbe insisted the challenges were fixable, describing the recurring grid collapses as a reflection of deeper systemic problems that require urgent and coordinated intervention.

He further assured the Senate that immediate steps would be taken to strengthen sector coordination, enforce technical standards, and stabilise electricity supply nationwide in the shortest possible time.
