The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied having any involvement in the screening exercise conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for political aspirants in Rivers State.
Speaking during a tour of ongoing projects in Abuja on Monday, Wike said he could not comment on the APC screening because he is not a member of the ruling party and has no knowledge of its internal activities.
“I’m not a member of the APC, so I don’t know what is happening in their screening.
“Even if they publish the results, why would I comment? I don’t know the reasons they have,” he said.
The former Rivers State governor maintained that he would only address issues directly connected to him, insisting he would not pretend to know what goes on within another political party.
“What pertains to me is what I will talk about, not what does not concern me. I’m not a native doctor, neither am I a prophet,” Wike added.
His remarks come amid controversy surrounding the appearance of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, before the APC screening committee for governors seeking second-term tickets.
Fubara had missed the official screening day on Saturday but later appeared before the panel on Sunday. After the session, the governor reportedly left the venue without speaking to journalists.
The screening committee, headed by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, later explained that governors occupied with official assignments were permitted to complete the process on Sunday.
